m&m party

Michaela was turning 4 this year, and I let her have a party with all of her friends. She was inviting boys too, so I needed a gender neutral theme. Since her initials are MM, we decided to have an m&m party. She was so excited for her big day! We had the kids come and decorate gingerbread houses with m&m's and candy canes. Then we played a couple games. We played pin the m on the m&m, and musical m&m's. The entire time I thought of comedian Brian Regan and his stint on kids' birthday parties, and how the point of the games is there's never enough in life! (If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend googling it!!) The kids for the most part still liked the games. We had a couple incidents with a little girl who burst into tears when I told them they had to be spun before pinning their m, and also when she didn't win musical m&m's. We took a break from the games after that to have snacks. I just made pb&j sandwiches and wrote an m on with jelly. Most of the kids refused one. So they sat there while the other kids ate. Then we had cupcakes and ice cream. I always love kids, and how they are so weird about eating normal things. I had several only eat the frosting, a couple told me theirs were sour, and wouldn't eat any of it, (but they had already licked them...) and a few who wouldn't eat all of their ice cream after telling me they did want it. Oh well. What's a party without some wasted food?!? We opened presents and then did the fishing pond. I had a couple issues with the birthday girl, but I think that's typical of her anyway. While we waited for parents to pick up their kids, I let them play on the m&m Twister mat, and throw m&m beanbags into a bucket. As the kids were leaving, I wasn't watching Lily, and she crawled into the kitchen and devoured all the food left on the small table. (I think she was concerned about the waste as well) All in all it was a success, and Michaela had a fun party with her friends!!

What a cute idea! I miss making those grahm craker gingerbread houses. My mom used to always make them for my birthday. Looks like you had a lot of fun!!
