So I have been really focused on our backyard this summer, most especially this corner of the yard that has always just been overrun with the most obnoxious weeds ever! I have spent hours and hours weeding and spraying with weed killer and weeding some more this summer. This area of the yard was part of the previous owners’ garden, but we didn’t need that much room, so it’s just become a random corner. Last year, Jason built the kids a fun little sandbox out of logs, but this year, I was determined to make it awesome. I sketched up some ideas and even put the kids to work helping me.
They helped me arrange where things would go and even helped me make some fun “decorations/music” for their corner of the yard. They loved helping me paint! They each had a great time putting all of their creativity into their cans.
Jared had to concentrate SUPER hard, and I loved when his little tongue started sticking out!
So on to the reveal:
We started by gathering all of our fun big play stuff and moving it into this space. Then I made and installed an awesome chalkboard for the kids to scribble all over, and also welcome everyone to their space!
I used pavers from another part of our yard to create a hopscotch for them. They have had a lot of fun jumping on this! (I painted the #8 with the wrong kind of paint and it washed off—that’s why it isn’t there…)
Here is a look at most of the corner—with some wonderful weeds and all!
My kids loving their chalkboard!
So you probably think it still looks crap-tacular, and you would be 100% correct! This was only the first phase of it’s transformation.
I took the cans that the kids all had fun painting, and strung them up in the corner for their “music” corner. They have had quite a bit of fun with it!
My brother Dave was awesome enough to take his trailer to help us get a load of mulch, and the area looks so much better with it!
It has been so nice for this part of the yard to NOT be an eyesore this summer, and we have all been enjoying our little backyard!!
