It’s Great to be Eight!

So, probably a big part of the reason I have been overly emotional, is this one:  My little girl turned 8!  I can’t believe how fast the time has flown.  She has been such a joy and such an example to us.  She has been looking forward to this birthday for quite a while now.  Back in January, she and I got to go to the “baptism preview” fireside, where they talk to all the children in the stake who will be baptized that year.  She turned to me and said, “I have to wait FOR-EVER for my baptism!”  We have gotten to attend a few of her friends’ baptisms, and at each one, she would count down how much longer she had to wait.  Well, her big day was almost here, but we had some last minute preparations.

Savannah had her baptism interview the week before, and our bishop asked her what she thought about being baptized.  She said “I think it’s kind of a miracle.”  It was so sweet!  Savannah has always been so sweet and tender!

Dave’s girlfriend Michelle came over to give the girls “mini-pedis”.  Savannah always loves when I get a pedicure, and so I thought it would be perfect to give her one for her baptism.  Luckily, Michelle is AWESOME and came and did one for all the girls.  (And some of those little toe-nails are teeny-tiny!

During the process.  (I think I probably owe Michelle a massage.  She was hunched over on the floor for a very long time!)

The finished toes!  (and fingers—Savannah got some little flowers on her finger nails too.)

We also had to celebrate Savannah’s birthday on September 3rd!!!  She was so cute about all her gifts.  She loved every one of them and her faces were so cute!

She looked like a little teenager going off to school!  Her cake this year was pretty simple.  Cupcakes in the shape of an 8!  She loved it.

The next day, September 4th, was Savannah’s baptism day.  My mom came over early to french braid her hair.  (Thanks mommy!)  She looked absolutely gorgeous!  She picked everything about her dress out.  The pattern, the material, the embellishments and the shoes.  She was so precious!

We gave her some special gifts for her baptism.  She got a journal, a CTR towel, white bracelets, scriptures with her name embossed, and a scripture case.  She was thrilled again!  Grandma and Grandpa Fergy gave her the “Remember” willow tree statue so she would always remember her special day!  She received many other sweet gifts and loves every one of them!!

We then had to take a million pictures!

It was a wonderful day.  She was the only one from the stake being baptized, so the whole meeting was special and just for her!  We had so many wonderful friends and family come to be with us.  We had lunch after at our home, and many were able to come over so we could visit for a while.  We had made a little video of Savannah that we shared with everyone.  Savannah also really wanted to share her testimony with everyone who came.  (Unfortunately, I forgot before people had left)

Here are some of our guests.  Again, I am a huge nerd, and got out of my “picture-taking”groove, and 1/2 the guests had left by the time I remembered!  Dang!  So even if you aren’t in pictures, we appreciate you coming!  Here are some of our friends:

Savannah had bought a set of scriptures at a yard sale this summer for 25 cents.  She wrapped them up with a card, and gave them to Michaela so she could have her own set now!

We had a relaxing day after that, and at the end of it, Savannah treated us all to a movie night with popcorn and treats that she had gotten from Grandma and Grandpa Medico.

We love this little girl so much!  Her sister’s are both anxiously awaiting their own baptisms now.  Lily tells us that she is going to the church to be baptized like Savannah in “just a minute”.  Unfortunately, I think it will feel like “just a minute” to me when her day is here too.  It really was a wonderful celebration, and we are so grateful to everyone who was able to come and celebrate with us!!
