This is HALLOWEEN

To say I enjoy Halloween, is probably an understatement!  I LOVE Halloween.  I know it’s pretty much a useless holiday with nothing to gain but cavities, but I just love it!  I think I’m pretty much just in love with holidays.  Halloween always feels like kind of the kick-off to 2 SOLID MONTHS of holiday fun!!  Yay!!  I was especially excited for this Halloween, because I was making all of our costumes and we were going as a “theme”!  It ended up turning into a completely psychotic month and a half of crazy me, but it put smiles on the faces of my kiddos, and that’s what matters!  So let me start by introducing the gang!

We decided to go as “Peter Pan” characters this year.  Over the summer, a lady in my mom’s ward inherited “some” material and ended up passing most of it along to others.  Knowing my mom and her daughters liked to sew, she passed a ton of it onto us.  This meant I was able to do most of our costumes in an extremely budget friendly way!!

First, is Lily, debuting as “Tiger Lily”.  She was really excited to be this until I made her costume, and then she kind of hated it.  The headband was even worse and she told me she was NOT going to wear it.  So, we watched the movie, saw how Tiger Lily was actually a princess, and wa-la!  Instant love of her costume.  For the first half of October she told me she was going to be a tiger.  By the end of the month, she had finally put the two together and would very happily announce who she was!

Next up came Savannah.  She has a crazy uncle, (ok let’s face it, she has quite a few crazy uncles).  So this particular crazy uncle nicknamed my kids with other names, and they will now answer to these names when he uses them.  Savannah’s name was “Wendy”, so when we started thinking about the idea to all be Peter Pan characters, she wanted to be Wendy!  She loved her dress and I think she felt pretty princess-y when she wore it.

Next up, Michaela.  She, of course, had to be “Tinkerbell”.  Tink is one of her favorite characters.  When we went to Disneyland a year ago, Tink was the one person she was most excited to meet.  It was fun to dress her up as someone she loved so much!  I had a tiny bit of drama with her costume, but went another direction, and ended up LOVING it!  I even did her hair in her favorite hair-do, “Tinkerbell hair”!  For trick-or-treating, we put “pixie dust” (glitter) in her hair and on her face.  She went crazy over that!!

Now on to the little man.  It was natural to make Jared our little “Peter Pan”!  He fit the part perfectly!  I loved making every little part of his costume.  I was worried he wouldn’t keep his hat on, but it was one of his favorite parts!  He giggled and laughed every time I put his costume on.  When his little dagger wasn’t strapped to his belt, he would wave it around like he was battling!  What a stud-muffin little “Pan”!!

On to me.  There were not many choices left as to what I could be.  I finally decided on “Smee”.  Yup!  The old fat side-kick pirate!  I at first, was just going to dress like a pirate and call myself “Smee”, but my sister told me how lame that was, and that I could make the costume look more true to character if I really tried.  Ok, ok, I tried.  This is what I came up with.  (I don’t think most people STILL knew who I was, but oh well!)

Last, but CERTAINLY not least, is Jason.  There is really only one character from the movie worth being for him, HOOK.  I went all out on his costume, but I had a VISION, and I wanted him to look amazing!  I loved his costume, complete with long curly hair, hook, and faux boots!  (you can’t see the boots very well, but they are my FAVORITE part of his costume!)  Lucky for all of us, he has the attitude to pull it off famously!!

We had so much fun together this year.  The girls loved that we all went together.  They also all thought it was hilarious when daddy would put on his “girl hair”.  We had a lot of fun, and the girls are already talking about what they want to be next year!!
