My name is Charisse and I am a Pinterest addict.
It feels so good to get that off my chest. Now, while being a Pinterest addict is actually a pretty fabulous thing, (there are so many fabulous IDEAS!) what is even MORE fabulous, is actually trying some of the many recipes, crafts and ideas that I pin. I recently tried a recipe I pinned, Mexican Chicken Lime Soup. mmmmm! Just the name of it gets my eyes watering….no that is not a type-o, it really gets my eyes watering.
{This is a story called “I am getting so super old that I don’t even know about my ‘Senior Moment’ until I go to blog about it”.}
So I made the soup. We were all excited to try this fantastic new soup.
The problem was, that is was SPICY! Like unbelievably spicy! Like we were drinking milk, and putting sugar in our soup to try to combat the spicy-ness of this soup! Was it good? YES! Super good! But it was a hard soup for all of us to eat. We ate slowly and our mouths were pretty much on FIRE while we ate.
But most especially THIS GUY:
Sorry the pictures are blurry, but it was hard to get him to stand still. He only ate ONE BITE and broke out in a sad rash all over his face. He ended up only eating chips and dabbing at his face with a cool rag all evening. We were worried he was having an allergic reaction, but it faded after a few minutes, and after calling the pediatrician’s office, we felt like he was ok and just reacting to the extreme spicy-ness of the soup.
Well, needless to say, the kids were not huge fans of this soup. Jason still really liked it though and wanted me to try it again sometime. I decided I would read online to see if anyone else had trouble with the soup being too spicy and see what they would do. I haven’t actually gotten around to that though. We did have quite a bit of soup leftover, and Jason made him and I some really good chicken quesadillas with the chicken only.
So, getting to my senior moment:
As I was blogging about this incident, I clicked over to the recipe. At a glance I realized what had happened, and immediately burst into laughter.
When I made this soup, I used 2 cans of chipotle chiles in adobo sauce. When I looked back at the recipe, I realized that it ACTUALLY says: 2 canned chipotle chiles in adobo sauce. I read this recipe many times while shopping for and then making it and didn’t realize my error. It is, after all a matter of a few letters.
CANS vs. CANNED
Do you see it yet? Let me just spell it out for you in case you are anything like me and experiencing a “senior moment” right now. This recipe calls for two little chiles. Just two little individual chiles. NOT two CANS of said chilies. TWO ENTIRE CANS OF FREAKING HOT CHILES is, in fact, what made it into MY soup! Oh dear!
I fear for my family.

Oh my goodness that is too funny! But glad you get to try this fabulous recipe again...without ALL the spice!
Ba ha ha ha! That is too funny! I hate it when I have moments like that. A lot of mine occur during making dessert..dessert that I am supposed to share with others.
This made my night. I'm shaking from laughing so hard!
I hate that when new recipes don't work out, even worse when you figure out it was your own fault! I think you should give it another chance, hopefully round two will go a little better:)
Sounds like when I put too much garlic into my Cafe Rio salad dressing. Poor Jared:( I fear for your family as well!
Oh Charisse, how I love you. With how fabulous you are about everything it's a comfort to me that you're not perfect so you won't get sick of me. I've done similar things so don't feel bad, I'm right there with you. Love ya!
