Now that my kitchen and living room are painted, I am slowly getting some new decorations up.
Project #1 More Plates: I have had this cute little plate rack for almost a year. I got it super cheap at a boutique. I finally found 3 of 4 plates for it so I sprayed it, mounted it (by HAND with a screwdriver, into STUDS! Why? Because my electricity is funky, and the plug that would reach doesn’t work, and I couldn’t get an extension cord because of a sleeping baby in the room and if you know ANYTHING about me, it’s that I am super impatient)
Wa-lah! I love it! I just have to find THE perfect plate to fill the empty spot. Oh, and maybe something to stick the plates to the wall so they don’t accidentally take a spill off the rack. (It’s a VERY small rack and the plates overlap each other.) Any suggestions?
Project #2 Candlestick: I have looked at DI for well over a year for a perfect chunky candlestick with no luck. I didn’t even know what I WANTED it for, just that one needed to find it’s way to my home. Well, all that looking finally paid off! I found THIS little lovely on my latest trip. And guess what’s even better? I KNEW what needed to happen with it! (maybe that’s why I haven’t found one until now!)
Out came my trusty spray paint! By the way, it was rather cold this week for spray painting, but again, I am impatient. Luckily, it all worked out ok. So I sprayed, then rubbed back off some paint to let the lovely original color shine through, and then put my new friend on top! (yes Amber, it is the same bird you have, but what can I say, I had the color scheme first! Plus, EXTRA bonus, now your kids’ pet can have a “cousin”)
mmmmmm….me like!
Project #3 Old Window-New Wreath:
This project began when I scored this wonderful old window from my friend Heidi. Isn’t it pretty? Other than the dirty grimy window panes, it’s perfect. After some cleaning, and some INTENSE measuring, (let’s just say, I am a BIT of a perfectionist) I slapped this baby up on the wall. But it needed some company.
Enter in part B. I started with all this:
And worked sort of like this:
And made this!
And then made a horrible judgment in spraying it on plastic. Why do I do things like that? Anyway, let’s just say, I had to scratch round one, and pull off every one of those lovely beans you see and start over. Round two was better, but tedious. I then decided the first paint color wasn’t exactly right, so I went on the search for something else.
So again, I started with the window, slapped it up on the wall…
Added a wreath, and ta-da! What do you think? I think it looks a tad bright in this picture, but I really love it in person. Also, this (I guess) is the debut of my new walls too! I am absolutely in love with the color! I think I’m gonna love the pop of color in the accents too!
If you have never been to my house and want to see the “before”, here is it.
And again, here is the after! (taken at night, so it’s a little bit crappy quality)
Anyway, the whole living room is not done yet, in fact, we still have to do the baseboards, redo a fun new piece of furniture, and I am still working on finding the “perfect” things to go on the walls and above the window and such, but it has been fun to come up with ideas and develop a style that is “us”!
