Random Happenings

Here are a few things we have been up to lately:

Savannah and Michaela both entered into their school’s “Festival of the Arts” contest.  Savannah wrote a story, and won 3rd place in her age division!  We are all so proud of her!!

Date night!  I planned a “Starry Starry Night” date night for Jason and I.  The kids were in bed and I sent him out to get our dinner.  He came home to a note, and when he came downstairs he loved the “stars” on the ceiling!

We watched the movie “Stardust” and had some “star” themed treats.

After our yummy Café Rio dinner that is!!

I also found us some star wands at the dollar store. (you can see how thrilled Jason is with them!)

It was a fun night and it had been awhile since our last date.  But the absolute BEST part of the date was this note we found outside of Savannah’s room.

It’s kind of hard to read, but it says, “Have a fun time! Love Savannah  Romance  Stars”  I love it!!!  So adorable!

I have been trying to get back into the “preschool” groove with Lily.  Jared has loved joining us too.  One day last week we learned about circles so then we made masks.  I had some foam crowns that I had bought one time so we made prince and princess masks.

They loved trying them on!!

Jared really loves to color.  He doesn’t eat the crayons at all, just scribbles on the pages.  If the girls color, he is always right by them!  And if there is ever a stray coloring book lying around he snatches it right up!!

Over the weekend we had the “community dumpsters” in our neighborhood.  It was our year to have it parked right in front of our house. (I LOVE it when it is right in front of us!!)  We spent Friday night and most of Saturday raking, sweeping, chopping, and cleaning out our yard.  The kids were GREAT helpers!!  The girls all picked up a lot of sticks and made many trips to the dumpsters, Savannah and Michaela steadied the ladder while mom cleaned out the gutters, and Jared rode in the wagon! (our makeshift wheelbarrow!!)

It was great to be able to get so much done!!  Our yard is looking better than ever!

Jared has upgraded his bedroom and now has a BIG BOY BED!!!!!  Mom was definitely not ready to believe that this little guy is not a baby anymore.  Jared was pretty sure though.  He was up all night banging around in his crib for several nights and one night out of desperation I put the mattress on the floor.  He did better that night than he had in a long time, so we took down the crib and put up the bed.

We don’t have a bed spread yet, and he gets to have purple sheets since that’s what  we have, but he does quite like his big boy bed!  Nights have gotten a LOT better, not perfect yet, but he is getting used to his new surroundings!!

One last thing.  We got new CURLERS!  I know how lame right?  But these aren’t just any curlers, these are Curlformers.  The girls and I were pretty excited to try them out.  Then they looked so hilarious we had to take pictures!  Here they all are with them in their hair. (I think they all look like Medusa’s!)

And here are their pretty curls…..AFTER church.  I didn’t have quite enough for Lily’s hair and had to curl some of hers with a curling iron, but Savannah and Michaela’s curls both stayed in great!!  I think we will get amazing curls for one more day!!

I love the starry night date night, what a fun idea. I think sometimes it's hard to think of fun "date" ideas on a budget, but this is so fun and creative. And great choice with the Cafe Rio!

What do red vines have to do with stars? Also, I love the curls, but why didn't poor Jared get any?
