We had such a fun Memorial Day, despite the crummy weather. We woke up super early, and headed up to Syracuse so that Savannah and Michaela could participate in a race with their cousins, Emma and Zach.
It was bitterly cold, but they were excited anyway!
The racers, trying to keep warm!
Here they are at the starting line. (You may be wondering what the heck Michaela is doing. I am pretty sure that’s her “starting” pose.)
And they’re OFF!!
Savannah was the first one in!
Michaela was next. When we first saw her, she was walking and looking at the ducks in the pond. We had to remind her that she was in a race, so RUN!
Emma was next, running in with her daddy.
A cute little cheering squad.
Here comes Zach!
All the racers with their medals!
After our fun morning run, we all headed to Amber & Alan’s home for a yummy breakfast of fruit, Einstein Bagels and Krispy Kreme Donuts. I went to help pick up the food and was treated to a Krispy Kreme donut right off the conveyor belt! Oh my goodness! I think that donut has changed my life! Can someone please explain to me WHY there isn’t one in Salt Lake? I just really don’t understand! I think we might be visiting our Syracuse cousins a lot this summer…
After breakfast, the kids all settled down to watch a movie.
Later, there were hugs.
And strange people matching pants and socks.
And some naps.
And some showing off of cute new piggy tongs.
And some eating of some FABULOUS grub!
My family approved! (I don’t know what Savannah’s face is doing, she really did love the food)
Then the kids all got to go outside and see the Maden’s new pets!
CHICKENS!!
Lily was CRAZY about the chickens and loved to pick them up.
Michaela liked them too, but had a harder time with the picking up part.
I sat inside and watched her circle around the chicken coop over and over following after the chicken she was trying to pick up. It was a nice laugh!
Eventually she caught it! (or possibly was finally handed the chicken by someone else)
Savannah saw the chickens pre-photo time, and didn’t want to go back out for a picture.
Jared wasn’t very interested in chickens.
But he was very impressed with the handiwork of the coop!
And he thought the slide was pretty great too!
Happy Memorial Day!

Michaela cracks me up! From her starting pose to meandering along during the race, watching the ducks, she is so "unique." I can just picture her chasing the little chick around:)
