My Craft Oasis

I haven’t had my own craft space for a few years, and before that, it was not organized very fabulously.  We recently decided to take a little side room off of our master bedroom and turn it into my own craft space!

I was feeling a little overwhelmed because it feels like my entire house needs a good de-junking and I didn’t know where to start.  My mom came over one day and in about two hours she had helped me move everything out of that room (including a big old heavy couch!) and helped me “shop” my house for furniture and move it into the room.  We even ended up stealing some cupboards from our shed.

Now before I get to the pictures, just know that this was a “make it work” project.  There was no paint involved, so things might not look “perfect”, but for now it’s FUNCTIONAL, and the sweetest little craft room set-up I have ever had!

Here is the view from the door.   One of my favorite features of this room is that is gets the BEST light in our entire house!

The only bigger item I bought were the two Rubbermaid drawer storage at DI for $5 each!  Other than that I only bought some smaller storage bins from the Dollar Store.

I stole this bookcase from Savannah.  I like my use much better!  (The turquoise bins are my Dollar Store bins!  They are GREAT!)

My large shed in my backyard has become the extended family storage shed for things they don’t need but someone else might.  I got some of my pieces there.  Including my desk and this little white bookcase.  The peg board behind my sewing machine will be hung up.  I recycled it from my garage!

The two cupboards (that I stole from the shed) still smell fabulously like wood and are wonderful to hide some of my crafty mess!

The bookshelves hold all of my scrapbook supplies and the dresser has more fabric. (oh, and Jason borrowed a little space for his weights. he he!)

I love sitting in here now!  And it has been great to let the kids play outside and I can stay in and work but still see them.

I definitely want to paint everything, but if it doesn’t happen for a while that’s ok, because I love it right now!  It’s great having everything all together in one room.  I found so many things that I had bought again (and again) because I didn’t know where to find it.  Now everything is right there together and I am excited to craft craft craft!!!

This looks like heaven! Having all your craft stuff ORGANIZED and in one place, way to go! And I love that you did it on the cheap, I think that's the only way to go and it still looks great!

So jealous!! I dream of having a space for all of my crafts...not to mention a spot to do projects without little hands trying to help!

okay, Charisse...I thought you should know I hold you personally responsible for my obsessive weekend. I read this blog entry a while ago and thought about it a bit and finally on Friday, I decided to act. I'd been wanting to change my craft room anyway but this was that little push I needed to move everything out and paint. Then, while the paint was out, I figured I should paint the laundry room, too. In my craft room, I decided to re-organize everything (thanks to seeing how great your craft stuff looks!) and it's not done yet but I'm happier and more tired, also. You are an inspiration. I blame the mess on you. :) Ha ha!
